Figure 1a. MRI brain scans. gadolinium enhanced T1-weighted coronal brain MRI of the patient on admission. In the left parietal lobe there is an area of low signal with rim enhancement following contrast, consistent with a cerebral abscess. On the right there is basal meningeal enhancement with evidence of a subdural empyema.
